Diabetic Foot Care
A diabetic foot assessment is a specialist evaluation performed to identify risk factors for foot ulcers, infections, and potential lower limb complications in individuals with diabetes.
This assessment includes visual inspection of the following:
- Skin changes (e.g., dryness, cracks, infections, ulcers).
- Nail abnormalities.
- Foot deformities (e.g., hammer toes, retracted toes, bunions, Charcot foot).
- Signs of trauma, blisters, or pressure areas.
- Palpation of your foot pulses (dorsalis pedis and posterior tibial) to assess circulation.
- Sensory loss using monofilament testing.
- Vibration perception (with a tuning fork).
- Footwear assessment to ensure proper fit and protection.
