Insole and Orthotic Provision

Insoles are a type of shoe insert and can be beneficial for certain foot conditions such as:

  • Sweaty feet or foot odour
  • Extra cushioning if your natural fatty pad has atrophied
  • Thermal insoles for winter seasons

Orthotics are medical-grade inserts designed to correct or accommodate foot and lower limb alignment issues. They can be prefabricated or custom-made based on a podiatrist’s assessment.

KinetiX Insoles

KinetiX insoles are custom orthotic devices designed to address specific biomechanical issues in the foot and lower limb. They utilize unique designs to alter how forces are distributed across the plantar surface, improving balance, comfort, and reducing pain.

Clinical Benefits: KinetiX insoles have been shown to improve recovery rates for common foot and ankle conditions, with patients reporting significant symptom improvement.

Design Features: Each orthoses is tailored to specific conditions, such as plantar fasciopathy or achilles tendinopathy, using injection-moulded polyurethane for durability and comfort.

Availability: These orthotics are only available to healthcare professionals for proper prescription and fitting.

Digital Foot Scanning at Elland Foot Clinic

We have invested in a digital foot scanner to give our patients a more detailed, high-end musculoskeletal assessment. As you walk across the scanner, it records how pressure moves through your heel, arch and toes, step by step. The results appear on screen, so we can show you exactly where your foot is overloading and explain what that means for your pain.

Elland Foot Clinic can now prescribe Phits custom orthotics. Rather than being cut from a standard shape, each pair is designed from your own scan data and your podiatrist’s prescription.

How Phits Orthotics Are Made

Phits orthotics are 3D printed, which allows the support, cushioning and flexibility to be built precisely where your foot needs it. The result is a slim, lightweight insole that fits more easily into everyday shoes, trainers and work footwear than many traditional orthotics.

Custom Orthotics vs Off-the-Shelf Insoles

Off-the-shelf insoles are made for an average foot. They can help with mild aches, and we will tell you if a simple insole is all you need. Custom orthotics are designed for your foot shape, your walking pattern and the condition being treated, which makes them a better choice for ongoing or more complex foot and ankle pain.

Your Orthotic Appointment Step by Step

  1. Assessment. We talk through your symptoms, activities and footwear, then examine your feet and legs.

  2. Digital foot scan. You walk across the scanner so we can see how your feet load.

  3. Prescription. If orthotics are right for you, Nick designs your Phits prescription from your scan and assessment findings.

  4. Fitting. When your orthotics arrive, we fit them to your shoes and explain how to wear them in.

  5. Review. We check how you are getting on and make adjustments if needed.

Orthotics Prescribed by a Chartered Podiatrist

An orthotic is only as good as the assessment behind it. At Elland Foot Clinic, every prescription is written by Nick Mainds, a chartered podiatrist registered with the HCPC (CH33550) and a member of the Royal College of Podiatry. Nick specialises in musculoskeletal podiatry, so your orthotics form part of a full treatment plan alongside exercises and footwear advice, not a standalone product. Orthotics FAQs

Will Custom Orthotics Fit in My Shoes?

Phits orthotics are slim and lightweight, so they fit most trainers, walking shoes and lace-up work shoes. Bring the shoes you wear most to your appointment and we will check the fit.

Most people get used to them within one to two weeks. We will give you a simple wearing-in plan, starting with a few hours a day and building up.

Not always. For some conditions, orthotics are used short term while exercises build strength. For others, such as a stiff big toe joint or arthritis, they may be a longer-term support. We will explain which applies to you.

You can, and for mild aches they sometimes help. If your pain has lasted more than a few weeks, keeps coming back or affects your daily life, an assessment will tell you whether an insole is the right answer at all, and if so, which one.
