Verruca Treatment
Verruca vulgaris is a benign skin lesion caused by infection with the human papillomavirus. They often occur on the soles of your feet or between your toes.
Treatments:
- Verrutop
- Verrucae Needling
Verrutop
Verrutop is a topical, nitric-zinc complex solution used for the treatment of cutaneous warts (verrucae), including common warts and plantar warts. It is a painless, non-invasive treatment that causes mummification of the wart tissue without the need for surgical removal or aggressive debridement.
What are its key features?
- Contains nitric acid, zinc, copper, and organic acids.
- It’s applied directly to the wart in small quantities.
- Causes rapid dehydration and coagulation of the wart tissue.
- No need for occlusion or dressings.
- Usually requires 4-6 treatments at 1–2 week intervals.
Verrucae Needling
Verrucae needling (also known as Falknor’s needling procedure) is a minor surgical treatment used for persistent plantar warts (verrucae). It involves puncturing the wart multiple times with a sterile needle under local anaesthetic to stimulate the body’s immune response and help eliminate the virus responsible (human papillomavirus – HPV).
How is the procedure performed at Elland Foot Clinic?
- We perform the procedure under local anaesthetic to ensure the area is pain-free.
- A fine, sterile needle is used to repeatedly puncture the wart, pushing the viral particles into the deeper layers of the skin. This action is intended to trigger a localized immune response, helping the body recognize and destroy the virus.
- In over 70% of cases, only one treatment session is required, though follow-up will be required.
When should it be carried out?
- Minimal post-op pain
- No dressings are required after its healed
- Can be effective even for the most long-standing, treatment-resistant verrucae
- May also lead to resolution of satellite warts (other warts around it) due to systemic immune response
How is the procedure performed at Elland Foot Clinic?
- For persistent plantar verrucae
- If its failed to response to first-line treatments
- Suitable for adults and older children who can tolerate minor surgical procedures
